Best Practices for Protecting Single-Ply Membranes During PV Installation

The purpose of this training is to provide participants with best practice guidance on how to protect single-ply roofing systems during solar PV installation.

This recording is from the SEAC Monthly General Meeting on July 31, 2025.

As commercial buildings increasingly adopt solar technology, the intersection between photovoltaic (PV) systems and roofing has become critical. This presentation from the July 2025 SEAC General Meeting—led by Chadwick Collins, Technical Director at Single Ply Roofing Industry (SPRI)—offers key guidance to ensure PV installations do not compromise single-ply roofing systems.

Participants will learn best practices for protecting membranes during PV installation, including mounting options and proper methods. The session clarifies the roles of roofing contractors, PV installers, and electricians to promote coordination and minimize risk. Topics also include evaluating roof readiness, addressing repairs, and aligning the service life of roofing and PV systems. Emphasis is placed on cross-industry collaboration to support durable, sustainable installations. For questions, please contact tech@spri.org.
