ESS Workshops

In 2023 and 2024, Sustainable Energy Action Committee is hosting a series of virtual and in-person energy storage systems (ESS) workshops.

Each workshop includes four hours of educational content for building officials, fire safety officials, installers, and manufacturers. The sessions are designed to be interactive. Attendee participation is encouraged.

Workshops begin with a brief welcome and opening remarks followed by an overview of the four workshop sessions. Session 1 covers ESS safety and risks, including a discussion of ESS types, safety standards, and codes. Session 2 covers the UL 9540 ESS safety standard and the UL 9540A ESS fire test standard.

Following a 15-minute break, the workshop resumes with Session 3 featuring common issues with permit applications, plan review and inspections. Lastly, Session 4 brings together panelists from all previous workshop sessions for an open discussion with attendees.
